Frequently Asked Questions

What is a central license?

The central license is your main license linked to your Summation serial number. This should be the instance of Summation from which you plan to manage your CT Summation Cases.

Why is LitInventory™ designed to run on specific Summation licenses/serial numbers?

LitInventory™ is launched from the “CT Summation Cases” Case and exchanges information with the Case as it runs. Linking LitInventory™ to a specific instance of Summation ensures all the working parts can find each other.

What is a satellite license?

Discount “satellite” licenses are available if a firm has multiple offices with large numbers of Cases. The “CT Summation Cases” Case can then be added to the local instance of Summation so the inventory can be created locally. This increases speed and reduces mapping complications sometimes encountered when running LitInventory™ over the wide area network.

What are the requirements for accessing remote “Cases” folders over my network?

There are three things to keep in mind:

  1. You must have access and full rights to the remote instance of Summation and any Case component locations, and have appropriate mapping to navigate to the remote “Cases” folder (the location of your CI or SSECI files).
  2. If the CI/SSECI files use drive letter mapping the local computer must match the mapping of the remote instance of Summation. If not, you will receive “NOT FOUND” in the Case Directory field. However if UNC paths are used this is not an issue.
For example, suppose you are in New York and want to create an inventory of the Cases in your Washington DC office. If the Case Directory in the CI file in DC points to “S:” LitInventory looks for that folder on “S:” as mapped by your local PC in New York. If the CI file in DC points to (for example) “\\DCServer\Summation” there is no confusion where the folder can be found.
  3. The time the inventory takes to complete might be affected depending on your network.

Does the maximum number of Cases refer to one office or across all my offices?

LitInventory™ reviews one “Cases” folder at a time and stops when it has reached the maximum number of Cases for your Edition. The edition you need should accommodate the location with the largest collection of Cases. Therefore the inventory of all the Cases in your other, smaller collections will complete without stopping.

For example, if you have 400 Cases in your New York office and 200 Cases in your DC office, Silver Edition (500 Cases maximum) would cover both locations.

I have 400 Cases in one location, but less than 100 in another office. Can I order the Silver central license and the Bronze satellite license?

The maximum number of Cases for your edition is determined by the LitInventory™ Key file provided to your firm. Therefore additional Summation serial numbers added to your Key file would all have the same number of maximum Cases.

Does LitInventory work with CT Summation Enterprise version?

Enterprise SSECI files can be inventoried from the “CT Summation Cases” Case in LG or iBlaze® versions of CT Summation.  Unfortunately at this time the “CT Summation Cases” Case can only be installed in LG or iBlaze®.  If you would like to review the results in Enterprise, the Case can then be converted from LG or iBlaze® to Enterprise.

Why should I get yearly maintenance?

Yearly maintenance is included with your initial license for the first year, and you will receive updates as new features are added and LitInventory™ is improved and refined.

Support is not limited. I plan to always support my clients.

However, it is possible that changes in Windows or CT Summation will prevent older versions of LitInventory™ from working properly. Keeping your license current by purchasing yearly maintenance will ensure that you continue to get the most value LitInventory™ has to offer.
